246 Mild Intervention Instructional Assistant - Cov

Internal and External Post:  Open to any interested applicants

Terms of Employment:  Effective immediately. 9:30am - 3:30pm. 5.5 hours per day (plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch).

Salary:  Level II – Instructional and Administrative Support Personnel Summary - There are no benefits associated with this position.

Function:  Supports and implements program of the Mild Disabilities teacher.  Acts as an extension of the teacher in the Mild Disabilities and general ed. classrooms through an integrated program. Assists with assignments and  implementing behavior plan. Prepare instructional materials according to the teacher’s direction necessary to implement plans for the students. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Director.

Requirements:  Completion of one of the following:
                             • Two years of study (60 hours) at an institution of
                                higher education or
                             • Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree or
                             • Successful completion of Paraprofessional PRAXIS exam within
                                6 months of start date. Through a formal academic assessment,
                                this exam demonstrates the candidate has met a rigorous standard
                                of quality and possesses the ability to assist in instruction, reading,
                                writing, and mathematics.
Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable. Effective communication skills. Ability to take direction. Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments. Patience and genuine interest in education of students. Awareness and respect for student diversity. Clerical skills, flexibility, and confidentiality required. Training for this position will be implemented upon hiring.
