245 Special Needs Instructional Assistant - Woodside

Internal and External Post:  Open to any interested applicants

Terms of Employment:
  Position is effective immediately: 7 hours per day plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch.

Salary:
  Level II – Instructional and Administrative Support Personnel Wage Summary. This position is eligible for medical coverage only.

Function:
Provides both direct and indirect support to promote student learning in the special education and general education settings as directed by the special needs teacher(s). Prepares the necessary instructional materials according to the teacher’s direction to implement individual education programs (IEP). Attends community based instructional activities to assist students in building life skills/vocational skills. Implements behavior intervention plans (BIP) when necessary. May assist with and care for personal needs of students, including bathroom assistance, diapering, feeding, and changing. Additionally, may provide assistance with physical transitions into wheelchairs, physical therapist equipment, and/or on and off the bus. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Office.

Requirements:
Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree is preferred. Previous experience as a classroom aide desirable. Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds. A lift test will be required. May be required to drive a special education van with students as passengers (2-6 students) with additional adult supervision.
